about us

Nestled in the historic landscape of Atlanta's Inman Park, Wisteria has served modern Southern cuisine and charm since opening in 2001. One of the first in Atlanta to reinterpret the flavors and techniques of traditional Southern cooking, chef-owner Jason Hill offers a menu that conjures memories of Sunday suppers of fried chicken and front porch drinks while creating his own legacy.

Jason Hill and executive chef Charles Lowney pay homage to the seasons. The menu adjusts to suit the harvest and gathering greens, cheeses, beef and fresh fish from local and regional sources, from Georgia to North Carolina is the foundation to our process. Both chefs worked for many years to build relationships with local farmers and purveyors.

Wisteria's menu offers traditionally Southern eats, from the beginning Hill found himself reinventing the types of foods he grew up with to suit the taste of his family and friends. "I wanted to make food for people I love and knew they would enjoy," he says of Wisteria's early menu. His signature black-eyed pea hummus with sweet potato chips was born from the need to satisfy modern cravings while remaining within the realm of Southern ingredients and food values. Entrees of pan-seared pork belly with poached pear, dried cherries, balsamic-candied walnuts and a port wine-and-tupelo honey reduction are testament to tradition, yet offer a new angle, and the kitchen's pimento cheese deviled eggs with pickled okra and spiced pecans combine down-and-dirty Southern flavors with the up-turned pinky of refinement.

Celebrated perennially by Bon Appetit magazine, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta magazine and Zagat, as well as countless other publications, Wisteria's welcoming dining room and staff are as much a part of the restaurant's charm as the food. The large room, with an original brick wall, is dominated by Hill's dedication to showcasing the work of local artists (ask your server, since each piece is for sale).

An adventuresome cocktail program and extensive craft beer collection dovetail beautifully with the modern twists and Southern flare of the kitchen. Wisteria also prides itself on a diverse and extensive wine list served by the restaurant's warm and knowledgeable staff.

Ask your server about Wisteria's extensive gluten-free menu - it's one of the most extensive offerings in the area.

Southern Savvy

What Makes Wisteria's Southern So Savvy?

Jason and Charles are proud of the relationships they've built over the years with local purveyors, food craftsmen and farmers. Wisteria's menu reflects these relationships, utilizing sustainable and organic ingredients whenever possible, from Atlanta's Turnip Truck and its harvest of organic vegetables to the goat cheese at Coles Lake Dairy in Carrollton, Ga.

Browse the menu and you'll see these connections: Wisteria's arancini uses local gouda from Udderly Cool Dairy in Roopville, Ga., creating an inventive Southern take on this traditional Sicilian street food. Stone ground grits from Adluh Mills in Columbia, S.C., and Georgia coastal shrimp give the kitchen's shrimp and grits local love and flavor. Jason and Charles believe that nourishing local farms and food artisans builds community and fosters awareness of food pathways, while providing the freshest flavor.

Our Team

Jason Hill
Owner/Chef

Chef-owner Jason Hill began his cooking career at 17 as a cook at Atlanta dining institution Pano's and Paul's. A graduate of Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, Hill has applied his knowledge of the industry with his love for Southern cuisine, which he honed at the elbow of his grandmother

Charles Lowney
Executive Chef

Chef Charles Alexander grew up in New York City, in a culturally diverse family, in restaurants and in creative endeavors for all of his formative years. Growing up the son of a Chef, Charles found a second home in restaurants and the hospitality industry. Food gives life and Charles wanted to find a way to give life back to food. Following in his fathers footsteps, Charles started his training in French and Continental cuisine, but found his passion in seasonal and local cuisine, focusing on fermentation and preservation methods. Chef Charles’ perspective on cuisine is simple, always rethinking classics with a new perspective, while constantly refining his artistry of cuisine.
